The Stormborn

Overview

Stormborn is a high-octane spell-sword that lives in the pocket—casting on the move, crashing into melee, and detonating the room with layered elemental pressure. You weave Fireball chip and ground burn with Crackling Bolt chains, blanket space with Blizzard, then dive in behind Arcane Veil and Bristling Frost for safe strikes. Corrosive Siphon stitches it all together so you can play recklessly without bleeding out. When it clicks, fights feel like parkour: cast while closing, dash through gaps, carve with your blade, and leave a wake of frozen, burning, electrified bodies.

In character creation, front-load Intellect so your Essence pool and cast cadence can actually support “always be casting.” Add Might for raw numbers, then Dexterity to keep actions snappy—weapon swaps, light slashes between spells, and animation recovery all feel better. Resolve is your fail-safe; this build’s only real defense is dodging on time, so a few points here buys you extra stamina to reposition when the screen goes loud.

Your day-one kit is Crackling Bolt, Fireball, and Arcane Veil. Veil first—train yourself to press it whenever you’re about to stand still to cast, or when ranged enemies spot you. Fireball is your opener and your area denial; throw it early so the lingering flame ticks while you’re doing everything else. Crackling Bolt is your free damage line: it chains through packs, bounces off terrain into single targets, and gets downright rude if anything is “wet.” As soon as you can, add Blizzard; it’s the pace car for the entire build, slowing the board so your aggression is safe. Corrosive Siphon comes online soon after—use it on beefy targets and you’ll feel the leash come off. By the mid-teens you’ll be sprint-casting with confidence: Veil → Fireball → close distance under Blizzard → Siphon the bruiser → finish with blade and Bolts.

Open at mid-range: pop Arcane Veil, lead with Fireball to seed burns, and immediately lay Blizzard across the lane they must take to reach you. As the first wave enters the snow, fire Crackling Bolt through the densest line; angle it to clip as many backs as possible, or skim terrain to “double-tap” a lone elite. If you eat poke or commit too long, re-Veil—cooldowns are cheap compared to a death.

Once space is controlled, dive. Corrosive Siphon the tankiest enemy as you cross the threshold; it’s both a damage tap and a sustain tether, and the stun on full upgrade buys you greed windows. Inside the pack, your sword is punctuation—not the sentence. Two or three fast strikes to proc enchantments and exploit frozen targets, then slide out a step and recast. The loop is rhythmic: Veil for a window, Fireball to keep the floor hot, Blizzard to slow the world, Siphon to refill the bar, Bolts to rake, blade to cash in. Against bosses, the pattern is identical with tighter timing: maintain Blizzard lanes to cut charge paths, reapply Siphon on cooldown, and thread Bolts between Fireball casts while you duck in for brief sword strings during Veil uptime. The build rewards movement discipline—never plant longer than a cast time, and never swing so long you lose the right to recast.

Common micro-wins: if enemies flood a choke, pre-cast Fireball at your feet and backpedal through it so they bathe while you kite; if ranged lines are wide, step to water or puddled ground and rake with Bolt for bonus pain; if you whiff a Veil window, Siphon the nearest bruiser and ride the heal while you reset distance.

Final Equipment Overview

Weapons & Off-hand. Your one-hander is the tempo engine. Early, Last Light of Day carries hard—fires add free pressure and the health-on-kill enchantment keeps you cruising between pulls. Late, Andre’s Offense is the prize: the frost rider plus your Blizzard/Bristling stack freezes targets frighteningly fast, letting you shatter with impunity. Keep a Grimoire of Greater Elements in the off-hand and treat it like a second bar: pre-pull with the book equipped to cast cheaper, faster Crackling Bolt, Fireball, Blizzard, then swap back to sword for the dive. If a map is arrow-or mage-heavy, you can flex to a defensive off-hand—briefly swapping to a shield that restores Essence on block between volleys to top the tank before your next push.

Armor & Accessories. Run the full War Mage set to supercharge the “cast while moving” identity. The robes keep you light (stamina/Energy preserved) while adding damage reduction and cast speed—crucial when your survival depends on finishing spells before the flank collapses. War Mage’s Bracers shave Essence costs and juice Shock, directly lifting Crackling Bolt and your wand-adjacent elemental profile. War Mage Boots quietly solve resource pressure: dodges can refund Essence and the +max pool means one more spell before a reset—exactly what a hybrid needs in the pocket. Trinket is Pearlescent Eoshedral Hellstone for +Intellect; swap to Mortal Haven if you want a “panic Veil” at low health for learning runs. Rings are simple and perfect: Ring of Greater Overseeing for flat AoE damage (it scales Fireball and Blizzard beautifully), and Ring of Elemental Balance to keep all three status tracks ticking; in practice it means more freeze windows, more burns, more stuns, and fewer counterattacks.

With this kit, Stormborn becomes a feedback loop: gear lowers costs and raises area, spells slow and soften, your sword cashes in while Siphon patches mistakes, and Veil keeps granting safe cast windows. The build never stops—only you decide when to disengage. Move fast, cast faster, and let the elements do the talking.
